Canon‘s new HF M-series was showcased at CES in Vegas last month. The new series includes HF M52, M50, and M500 which designed as a compact HD camcorder with built-in flash memory except the M500. As far as I concern, 2012 is the year of Wi-Fi capable devices, not only digital camera or camcorder, even scanner now has built-in Wi-Fi functionality. We are now living in the era of social sharing, that’s why the HF M-series are also equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity that enable users to share video wirelessly through social network sites such as Facebook and YouTube or store to local devices such as iPad, iPhone, or home computer, and share later (in case you need to tweak the video before uploading).
All models share the same features except the recording media. Along with an additional SD/SDHC/SDXC memory card slot, the VIXIA HF M52 & M50 come with built-in 32 GB and 8 GB memory respectively. But the M500 has only a SD/SDHC/SDXC memory card slot without the built-in memory. Are you feeling lucky? Check these items at Amazon.com. Along with the Wi-Fi capability, the HF M-series also equipped with DLNA compatibility, as well as the option to capture videos in MP4 format.

The modern world of HD video technology is flourishing with high tech playback devices such as Blu-ray players, HD TVs and even smartphones, capable of processing the highest bitrates of streaming data. Most of the TV stations worldwide broadcast crystal clear images in digital format showing us the beauty of full HD films, music videos, 3D animation and even cartoons. The average viewer doesn’t even know the technical specs that stand behind such broadcasts and the video quality seems to top our expectations.
The real quality comes into play when you test your home theater against it’s limits. The average HD broadcast has a bitrate of around 9000kb/s while a conventional Blu-ray player connected to your flatscreen seems to travel at the speeds of a racing car with up to 54 Mb/s.

First demonstrated in January at the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the FV TouchCam N1 HD Videocam was mentioned as the first Internet streaming true HD webcam for Skype video calls. Now the camera can be purchased directly from faceVision on line store or from other value added partners for about $120. When I video call my friend through Skype, I use the built-in camera on my laptop which has VGA quality. To achieve HD quality internet video calls, what we need is an HD webcam, but most of so-called HD webcams available in the market cannot stream true HD quality over Internet. That’s why the FV touchcam N1 comes into the market, thank to its embedded hardware H.264 encoding, a chip that takes the 720p video and using high-quality encoding technology, squeezes the video into a stream small enough to be sent over a typical Internet connection.
