The Toshiba Portégé R500 has Japanese name DynaBook SS RX1. Coming as the first laptop to adopt 64GB SSD (optional), the new R500 weighs only 1.86 pounds including its ultra-thin DVD RW. The lower end configuration comes with 12-inch widescreen, 12.5hours batter life, Intel Core 2 Duo processor (with 1.2GHz clock sped), 1024MB of ram, 120GB hard drive, and $1,999 price tag. The higher spec comes with the same configuration except the OS which is upgraded to Windows Vista (the price set at $2,149) and both will be available this month in Japan, but other country should wait until next month.
