Samsung SDI confirmed that the 0.52mm-thick 2.2-inch AMOLED (Active-Matrix OLED) is under mass production and will hit Korean market soon. The AMOLED comes with 240xRGBx320 resolution, 262M color number, and 10k:1 contrast ratio. With 224mW of power consumption, the lifetime amazingly up to 5.75 years.
About OLED (Wiipedia): “A great benefit of OLED displays over traditional liquid crystal displays (LCDs) is that OLEDs do not require a backlight to function. Thus they draw far less power and, when powered from a battery, can operate longer on the same charge. OLED-based display devices also can be more effectively manufactured than LCDs and plasma displays. But degradation of OLED materials have limited the use of these materials.”
